Ivy H. Smith

Quality Control Technician and Underground Utilities Locator

At Ivy H. Smith, I have two roles. The first is that of Quality Control. I travel, sometimes up to three hours, to inspect job sites and work completed by independent contractors hired by our staff. Once on site, I inspect the installation of fiber optic conduits and all of the equipment that supports them. These job sites range in size from about three homes to upwards of 200 homes.
My second role is that of Underground Utilities Locator. Using my equipment, I hook into the existing underground copper wire and locate where it goes via utility easements. Sometimes through someone's yard or under the street. I mark the area off with orange paint and flags. I travel for this role as well, sometimes up to three hours. And the job sites range greatly in size as well.
As a QC tech and Locator, one of my primary roles is dealing with customers on the job site. They have many questions about the work we are doing in the area and how it will effect them. I answer their questions to the best of my ability. Or, I direct them to one of our customer service lines.

Zale Jewelers

Seasonal Jewelry Consultant

Over the past four years, I have been invited back to both Gordons and Zales to work as seasonal help. In this role, I have directed guests to employees or products that better suit their requests. Additionally, I focus on the busy work (such as gift wrapping, operating the cash register, resupplying shelves, etc. etc.) so the full time consultants can better focus their efforts on the customers.

Army National Guard

Infantry Officer

I began my career in the guard as an Enlisted Infantryman in the 1/124th INFANTRY Battalion in Cocoa Beach, FL. From there, I transfered to the 1/118th INFANTRY Rear detachment, Bravo Company in August of 2012 and was a member of bravo company until January of 2014. During this 3 year period, I was learning about being an infantrymen. Everything from employing advanced combat weapons system, to basic Battal Drills and tactics.
In January of 2014, I earned a contract to commision and was promoted to the rank of Cadet, where my job changed drastically. As a cadet, I have been promoted to the position of Acting Lieutenant, in lieu of a commisionex lieutenant. I study battle tactics employed by an Infantry Platoon (40+ soldiers), and how they syncronize within a company sized element (130+ soldiers). I create plans for training and and assist the company commander in long term planning for the operations of my platoon within the company.
In May of 2016, I will earn my commision, and be a lieutenant in the National Guard.
