Iowa State University

Program Assistant II

As program assistant for the department of ecology, evolution, and organismal biology I am accountable for developing and executing the external promotion of the department to prospective students, faculty, and donors. I utilize social media channels, the department website, and email and print newsletters, as well as visual displays in Bessey Hall.

I also serve as the "mother hen" for the department's 65+ graduate students. I manage all aspects of the student pay, including tracking support needs, assigning TA appointments to undergraduate biology courses, preparing letters of intent, and entering payroll. I also assist the students through their academic progress, servings as a point of clarification for university and graduate college procedures and policies.

Upon joining the department, I created and presented an orientation program for all new faculty, staff, and students. The program is intended to eliminate confusion regarding university policies and department procedures.

I collaborate across multiple interdepartmental programs to serve undergraduate course needs and participate in the Biology Scholarship Committee and both the LAS and CALS communication workgroups.

YMCA of Greater Des Moines

Wellnes Coach & Welcome Center

As a Wellness Coach for the YMCA of Greater Des Moines, I assist members in clarifying their fitness and health goals, provide equipment orientations to youth and adult members, and maintain a welcoming and friendly wellness center.

As a member of the Welcome Center staff, I welcome members and potential members to the facility and provide a point of reference for questions regarding the Y and its many offerings.

At the John R. Grubb Community YMCA, I lead children in the Healthy Kids programming. This program, in partnership with Iowa State University, assisted children and their parents in preparing nutritious meals and discovering the fun in fitness.
