Cleaner

I clean various private houses and holiday cottages in the surrounding areas. I have a keen eye for detail and in the holiday cottages everything has to be 'perfect'. I am sometimes asked to check properties after less experienced cleaners have prepared them. With private houses, 'perfect' isn't always achievable but being consistent and noticing what needs to be done is. I have a good rapport with my private clients and have been with one family for over 5 years.

Lush

Assistant manager at Lush

Assistant to manager. Involved in all aspects of day to day running of a busy Lush store. I helped open the store in November 1998, we needed it up and running in time for Christmas shoppers. I was already familiar with the products and supported its ethical stance. I am only happy selling products I believe in and so was well suited to this role. We had a very small office space and limited technology so administration was fairly long-winded but being a small store I appreciated the insight it gave me into how everything ran.

Civil service

Civil servant at RAF Honington

Initially I worked in the work services department as an admin assistant and then I worked in the education department. Computer technology was in its infancy so most administrative tasks were done manually. In the work service department I would liaise with married quarter occupants and building supervisors on camp to make sure all necessary repairs were documented. Local contractors were used so it was important to know who could do what and spread the work out fairly. This department was subsequently privatised so I moved sections as I wanted to stay in the civil service. In the education centre I was in charge of making sure all new recruits were proficient in maths and English. We also ran a small library mainly used by dependants.
