Writer, Researcher and Creative Producer
August 2015 — Present
Urban Researcher, Place Writer, and City Curator dealing in heritage, culture, architecture and public art. I offer expertise in a wide variety of fields, be that written articles about place, researching your project, hosting a private tour, finding locations, of curating an event or body of work.
I focus on place and cities and associated roles that fit in line with those sectors so primarily my work is writing and research (The Guardian, BBC, Caught By The River, Untapped Cities, Creative Tourist) but I am often commissioned to run tours for organisations such as Google and The Royal Exchange; location scouting for events such as Reebok promo campaigns; curating an arts festival;
As the only person in the UK to have the role of City Curator, this gave me immense experience in festival management, event planning, producing, and researching culture and arts projects. I do often tend to have a focus on heritage too although I'd say my speciality is 'place' - cities; urban issues; street art; new nature writing and so on. Research into any of these fields is an expertise of mine so I'm very self-led on projects as I am able to exceed in all stages from idea conception, research to realisation and planning.
My website Skyliner was winner of Best Arts and Culture Blog in the UK last year (tying with the British Museum), and my alternative city tours which I run were the only UK tours listed in The Telegraph's Incredible Street Art Tours. I am a writer as well as curator and creative producer and write for The Guardian as well as international magazines such as Untapped Cities. My work into 'secret cities' and what lies behind closed doors of empty buildings and documentation of redevelopment sites has given me huge notoriety in Manchester where that project was based.
I have been editor of Creative Tourist and have most recently been commissioned for research and written work on arts projects I’ve led on for Allied London (Old Granada Studios) and Cartwheel Arts.
