I led educational programs for kids and adults focused on bird identification and the ecology of local ecosystems, and participated in habitat restoration and monitoring efforts. I also worked on an independent project investigating the butterfly diversity and richness at the sanctuary; and developed butterfly and other insect identification guides for visitors to use.
Developing and teaching interactive biology lessons to middle and high school students to provide experiences with science they would not receive in school. Lesson topics included: disease transmission, paleontology, field biology (plant and animal identification and natural history), and animal development.
Writing and presenting short introductory lectures about the biological principles and laboratory techniques for each day, guiding students through laboratory procedures, grading quizzes, lab reports and presentations, and providing individual tutoring to students enrolled in Genes, Ecology and Evolution (Biol214)
Developing and teaching interactive biology lessons to middle and high school minority students to provide experiences with science they would not receive in school; working with a member of the Biology department faculty to guide a small group of students through the process of designing and performing a long-term research experiment.
Responsible for designing and performing experiments, and analyzing resulting data. Presented results at various research events (including a semi-national conference) throughout 2013 and 2014. Also trained new lab members, compiled and organized all lab data, and developed a data management framework and protocols.
Researching and writing microscope-based science experiments and investigations for elementary, middle and high school level students.
I was a graduate student in the Ecology and Evolution program and completed coursework in Entomology and Global Change Ecology, in addition to serving as a teaching assistant.
I was a member of the Mass lab, where I focused on xenoestrogens (like BPA and BPS, which we come into contact with almost daily through plastics, receipts and even dental fillings) and their effects on planarian regeneration.
