Asst Warehouse and Distribution Manager
September 2000 — Present
Responsible for dual roles, to run the transport dept, with ten drivers and transport supervisor reporting directly to me, being responsible for WTD and RTD so that no conflicts arise between these 2 legal requirements. Initiated more efficient delivery system utilising all the fleet to maximum driving time and minimum down time, through driver and vehicle rotation. Changed from Northern Ireland only to Northern and Southern Ireland deliveries. Moved from 5 to 6 days a week delivery schedule, with 6 to 8 overnight runs per week thus reducing the need for of third party carrier to a minimum. When I first started in position all the vehicles were second hand of at least 5 years, after being transferred from the warehouse in Leeds, to then be used for possibly another 4 years, with no safety inspection, service plan or driver daily checks in place this was highly unsafe and creating a false economy were vehicles were constantly of the road because of breakdowns. After proving a leased and managed fleet would reduce down time and remove need for hire vehicles and reduce fleet running costs this was approved and running costs year on year have always come in below budget. Set WHS Management system to enable picking and delivery schedule to work without the need to micro manage. Warehouse ordering system to auto-order thus reducing overstock and stock rotation to a good working levels only needing adjustment to account for specials, sales promotions and time of year depending on product.
