Stakeholder Liaison Officer
June 2016 — Present
I took this position on over a year after completing my Masters on CSR and Indigenous resistance to mining in Guatemala. So far, I have visited four mine sites in Central America, and numerous affected or stakeholder communities.
This position is aligned with my interest in business with local impact, and is focused on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and best practices within the Canadian extractive sector (mining, oil and gas) working outside of Canada.
I work directly under the CSR Counsellor who reports to the Minister of International Trade. My job consists of building our Office's relationship with various stakeholder groups, developing dialogue, meetings and research related to CSR in the extractive sector and provide stakeholder network analysis and maintain relationships with companies.
These stakeholder groups includes companies, communities, academics, our embassies abroad and international government agencies internationally.
To date I've traveled to Honduras and Guatemala in this position to explore the local context and understand the local impacts, issues and opportunities of mining industries and specific Canadian operations abroad.
