Coordinator of the Pennsylvania Art Education Network

The Pennsylvania Arts Education Network is a coalition of arts, arts education, and advocacy organizations and individuals working together to strengthen public and policymaker support for Arts Education in Pennsylvania. Directed by a Steering Committee of influential arts and education organizations across the state, The Pennsylvania Arts Education Network is currently being operated through the Education Policy and Leadership Center.

• Developed and engaged the Network’s Steering Committee to direct future strategic efforts of the Network and to ensure the Network’s activities add value to arts and education stakeholders across Pennsylvania
• Organized an Arts Education Advocacy Day at the State Capitol that included a press conference featuring speakers from the Legislative Arts & Culture Caucus, Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania, and each of the four arts education disciplines’ statewide professional organizations; and distributed information to each of Pennsylvania’s 263 legislators
• Prepared and presented a workshop, Supporting Arts Education With Effective Public Policy, with the Arts Education Partnership at the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Networks’ 2013 Symposium
• Created communication and branding strategy for the Network, both internally and externally—this includes monthly statewide conference calls, newsletters, and web and social media initiatives
• Generated and promoted a statewide policy agenda that consists of six action items state and district policymakers can take to support arts education
• Crafted shared advocacy messaging for a coalition of arts, arts education, and advocacy organizations to support the goals of the policy agenda throughout the state
- Supported Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania in creating an Arts and Culture Caucus in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

Manager of The Arts and Education Initiative

The Arts and Education Initiative (AEI) is a major project of the Education Policy and Leadership Center (EPLC). The goals of the Initiative are to strengthen public and policymaker support for the arts in Pennsylvania; improve partnerships between the arts and the education communities across the Commonwealth; and enact public policies that support the arts in schools and communities and the learning opportunities they afford to people of all ages.

- Manage the Arts and Education brand and general communication through monthly newsletters, conference calls, website and social media presence.
- Promote, distribute, and present on the 2012 Arts Education Policy report, Creating Pennsylvania's Future Through the Arts and Education, statewide and nationally.
- Continue to research current Arts and Education policy throughout the state of Pennsylvania and disseminate news to stakeholders through monthly newsletters and policy briefs.
- Organize and facilitate the annual Arts and Education Symposium, a daylong statewide event attended by arts and education leaders across the state.
- Generally support the efforts of arts education professionals and organizations throughout the state of Pennsylvania as needed.

• Managed a six-person staff at a non-profit, multi-disciplinary community art space in downtown Pittsburgh that hosted, on average, four public events every month
• Improved Advisory Board communication, engagement and management by instituting new committee structure and schedule
• Promoted the Future Tenant brand by designing and producing print marketing materials, producing a monthly newsletter, and growing Facebook and Twitter followers by 200%
• Prepared the annual budget, maintained financial records, and reconciled expense reports
• Oversaw the annual Fundraising Benefit for approximately 400 attendees that net over $6,000
• Created and implemented a year-long schedule of programs that correlated with ongoing visual art exhibitions and live musical and dramatic performances

The Master of Arts Management (MAM) program at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College is designed to create innovative leaders in the visual and performing arts. The program combines rigorous finance, marketing and fundraising coursework with practical experience to prepare graduates to excel in a public, private or nonprofit arts environment.

Heinz College's MAM program provides what other arts administration master's degrees cannot -- the solid foundation of quantitative management principles for which CMU is known globally. Students leave the University with the arts management and administration tools necessary to solve some of the most pressing economic and operational challenges currently facing arts organizations in the U.S. and internationally.
