Student Parents and Carers Officer

Elected to be Student Parents and Carers Officer for the Students' Union. This role as student representative involved writing and presenting motions to student council, facilitating at family events, keeping confidential issues when speaking to student parents, organising meetings with Newcastle Carers Centre and Newcastle Banardos, leading coffee mornings for student parents, discussing childcare funding with university staff, writing and responding to emails and managing the student parents and carers Facebook page.

Represented Newcastle University students at national conferences, including NUS (National Union of Students) Women's Campaign Conference 2013 and NUS National Conference 2013. Co-wrote a motion on the importance of student carers issues to be discussed at conference.

Nominated 'Most Improved Society of the Year' at the NCL+ Awards by a student parent

Work experience period at mainstream middle school, where I focused mainly in the SEN classes and the lower sets. Prepared classroom resources, used PowerPoint to help with a lesson presentation, and read out a test paper to a student who used English as a second language. Observed extra morning literacy sessions and utilized clarinet skills when joining in with the lunchtime musical improvisation club.

One of the first members of the Creative Writing Society (CreSoc) and nominated Web/Publicity Editor. This role included creating advertising material, monitoring social networks, and persuading students to join at the societies fair. I also planned and lead hour long sessions on an alternate basis as part of being on the committee.
