Brightline Strategies

Managing Director

As managing director, I lead Brightline Strategies' marketing efforts on behalf of our clients, identifying new marketing opportunities; developing customized marketing strategies; drafting and editing copy and creative elements; coordinating graphic design; and combining marketing and public relations tactics to reach and surpass business goals. I also support public relations efforts such as cultivating reporter and publication relationships, brainstorming newsworthy pitch angles, and aligning organization objectives with print and online editorial calendars. Additionally, I assist with social media and digital campaigns, both organic and paid, using channels like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google AdWords, and Yelp to boost search engine optimization (SEO) and increase engagement with current and potential clients.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter

Director of Communications

I developed specialized skills in communications, marketing, and fundraising while producing and executing a wide range of campaigns, including branding, marketing, event planning, community outreach and engagement, corporate relations, crisis communications, media messaging, advocacy, and social media. I acted as brand champion and primary editor for all external publications and communications and managed the communications staff. I also led and participated in numerous regional and national workgroups, collaborating with home office and satellite staff to ensure consistent brand messaging and constituent user experience across all media platforms nationally.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter

Senior Communications Manager

I managed a department of three communications professionals to support the National MS Society's mission to create a world free of MS with a concentration on the National Capital Chapter's territory in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. My team and I were responsible for designing, writing, editing, and approving all external communications the chapter sent to constituents, including electronic communications, web design and content, social media, promotional materials, radio/TV/print advertising, speeches, press kits, and community outreach documents. Additionally, I managed the marketing budget to support our fundraising events, acted as editor for our quarterly newsletter, and incorporated education and awareness components about multiple sclerosis into all outreach efforts.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter

Event Manager, Teams

I managed the relationships between the National Capital Chapter and a sect of our key constituents: team captains. I helped these motivated individuals to recruit members for their teams; communicate effectively and efficiently with their team members and sponsors; and fundraise to help create a world free of MS. My concentration was primarily on the nearly 600 teams that participate in our six Walk MS sites in the spring and Capital Challenge Walk MS in the fall. Combined, these teams raised more than $1 million annually.

In addition to my work with the teams program, I also co-managed the chapter's social media presence while also looking to grow it into new outlets. I created Making Strides for MS, the new young professionals' group of the National Capital Chapter, designed to raise awareness and funds in the greater D.C. metro area on behalf of the National MS Society through social events geared toward young professionals.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Teams Manager

During my time at the North Florida Chapter, I managed more than 600 teams for eight fundraising events annually. I recruited and cultivated relationships with key volunteers, corporate representatives, community leaders, and organization members for the role of team captain, resulting in an average retention rate of 86 percent annually. As a result of my efforts, team participation in Walk MS increased by 20 percent from 2007 to 2009 and another 7 percent in 2010, and it also increased in Bike MS by 12 percent from 2007 to 2009 despite the recession. In an effort to collaborate across chapters in the region, I established the first (and now annual) Team Captain Regional Summit, a three-day workshop for top fundraisers across the Southeast, including developing and managing the event budget, coordinating logistics, and negotiating pricing and contracts.

Public Relations Assistant

I supported public relations and marketing efforts through event planning, media relations, creating and editing collateral materials, website content development, and member engagement. During PURC's branding transition and website redesign, I provided feedback and revisions through many rounds of updates to ensure a positive and easily navigated user experience. I crafted publications and support materials for the utility regulation industry’s semi-annual, two-week intensive conferences for audiences including top-level international government officials and private sector managers. I also collaborated with staff on international special events planning and logistics, including a course on international leadership in Paris, France.
