- Planned and attended workshops in Dhaka, Bangladesh and Doha, Qatar in order to build partnerships between U.S. based and international scientists. Responsibilities included: close coordination and effective communication with delegates from the Pacific Rim, the Middle East, and North Africa, writing talking points for high level officials including the Minister of Health’s representative.

-Reviewed and assessed over 100 NIAID grants to foreign countries to assure necessary information was included for Foreign Service Officers to determine the effects on U.S. foreign policy objectives in the country.

-Prepared briefing materials and hosted visitors to NIAID from different parts of the world including Belarus, Taiwan, China, Japan and Russia.

-Managed and supervised the Office of Global Research Fellowship Program, including Presidential Management Fellows, Preventative Medicine Fellows, and summer interns.

Editing and Design Intern

- Researched and wrote an article on the Marine Corps’ humanitarian intervention during Arctic Care 2013 for Fortitudine, a Marine Corps History Division Publication.

- Edited a book on the national security impacts of water shortages in Iraq.

- Categorized and digitalized dissertations funded by the Marine Corps History Foundation and created an easy to use system to keep a record of future dissertations.


House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

Policy Intern

- Researched and analyzed important issues such as public opinion on postal reform, funding for Presidential libraries, the efficiency of Department of Defense aid to Afghanistan, and excess federal properties for policymakers, consolidating the information so it could be easily understood and used in congressional hearings.

- Analyzed written witness testimonies on a variety of topics and then crafted thoughtful questions for the congressmen to use to question the witnesses during congressional hearings.

- Communicated with constituents, answering questions about the Oversight Committee’s recent hearings and bill proposals, sometimes having to handle confrontational constituents diplomatically and in a fashion that reflected positively on the Committee.

U.S. Department of State

Political and Economic Intern at U.S. Embassy Djibouti

Sampling of Projects:

- Coordinated several Embassy diplomatic representational events. These included the July 4th celebration attended by over 200 officials from the Djiboutian government and diplomatic representatives from 21 countries and the Global Economic Statecraft Day that brought together the Djiboutian and American business communities.

- Organized a roundtable between the Djiboutian opposition, the Japanese and European diplomatic community, and the U.S. Ambassador to discuss political platforms in advance of legislative elections.

- Conducted Public Diplomacy by representing the Embassy at the University of Djibouti’s English Club. Received an honorable mention from the professors and students for giving non-English speakers an opportunity to develop new language skills.

- Served as Site Officer for three congressional visits to the Embassy and nearby Camp Lemonnier Djibouti. Responsibilities included coordinating briefings and logistics with military command staff and protocol officers.

- Assisted the Political and Economic Section Chief during the first visit of a Deputy Assistant Secretary from the Treasury Department to Djibouti.

- Researched and drafted a diplomatic cable on human trafficking. Research included gaining the trust and interviewing Ethiopian trafficking victims along the Djiboutian-Ethiopian trucking corridor.

- Created and implemented a new program to develop cohesiveness between the company’s sections.
