Technology & Innovation @ CFPB believes that serving American consumers best involves future-friendly and data-driven design. // A rare breed of designer who is not afraid of code, big data, failure, or leadership. // First-generation Mexican-American (se habla español) and first in family to go to college. // A go-getter wit...
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking, and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it." - Steve Jobs
Goes like this: 1. Being part of an amazing digital agency at a large research university // 2. Teaching undergraduates at that university how to make good things for the web // 3. The George Washington University
Doctoral Student, Clinical Psychology
August 2008 — February 2011
I moved to Washington DC to start my PhD in psychology--as a psych undergrad who was active in research, it was the natural thing to do.
I worked as a research assistant at the Stress and Job Loss Lab, provided therapy and educational assessment at the Meltzer Psychological Services Clinic, and was the department IT support staff.
After two years I decided GWU wasn't the right program for my career. I left gracefully with good mentors and a sick ability to observe, empathize, listen, and test. I fully believe that my scientific training and clinical experience is the reason why I can intuitively solve design problems.
September 2009 — August 2010
I was the down-to-earth Genius who left you feeling vindicated and relieved–not the condescending one that made you feel small and stupid.
We got 15 minutes to solve whatever problem would be thrown at us. Fifteen minutes. How's that for critical, creative thinking? Could replace a MacBook Pro's logic board in 20 minutes.
And thanks to this job, no situation at work–no matter how ridiculous– can make me cry.
