Airdrie, North Lanarkshire

Strathclyde Police/Police Service of Scotland, Greater Glasgow

Police Officer

In 14 years as a police officer I have carried out several different roles in relation to crime detection and investigation. I initially served my two year probationary period based at Glasgow City Centre Police Office and continued there until 5 years service was completed. I thereafter moved to a Community Policing role where I became more involved in issues directly affecting members of my community. I attended forums, clinics and neighbourhood meeting as well as working closely with local housing offices to isolate and prevent local crime and to alleviated community fears.two years later I moved to the VIPER unit and conducted identification procedures into solemn proceedings cases. This meant I had direct contact on a daily basis with victims, witnesses and perpetrators of serious crime. Each persons emotions and requirements had to be managed on an individual basis due to differing impact factors and the natural variation in any persons reaction. Since 2009 I have been working in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow, returning to uniformed community and response duties.

For the past 11 years I have been a qualified Police fast response driver.

Arnott Insurance Services, Hamilton

Retention Manager

After initially attending an interview for a sales consultant, the Area manager conducting the interview asked if I would be willing to take on the above role in a shop in Gateside Street, Hamilton that was wallowing at the lower end of the league table in relation to customer retention. Due to the imminent takeover by Budget insurance, the shop was at risk of closure, which made accepting the job a risk to my own employment. In my first six months at the company I managed to turn the retention rate from around 38% to 72%.

Kwik-Fit Insurance Services, Uddingston

Outbound Sales Consultant

My initial duties were to carry out outbound sales calls to previous clients of Kwik-Fit garages. Targets were set in relation to each and every aspect of a sale individually i.e. The Policy, payment protection, breakdown cover and legal assistance. Throughout my time in the company I never failed to hit my targets and as such was moved to FTA Department which, although still outbound, was to potential clients who had received a quote but failed to take up the policy. This department was reserved for sales persons who had exceeded monthly targets and had shown competencies in closing techniques.
