Marketing Assistant

I started college with the idea that I would be graduating with a degree in Psychology, from there I would study to become a Psychologist. In the spring of my freshman year, I got a job on the Red Bull promotions team. As you can expect this completely flipped my idea of what I wanted to do post college. I thought I would switch to a marketing degree but my grades at the time were not good. I was put on academic probation which actually ended up being just what I needed. This "failure" resulted in me changing my views on school and how I worked to get what I wanted. I ended up switching my major to advertising. I now fully expected to graduate with a degree in advertising and upon graduating becoming an art director...which wasn't really possible considering my lack of experience and expertise in the area. At this time I had a mentor at McGarrah Jesse in Austin who helped be build a portfolio and land an internship after I graduated.
In 2014, I moved to Houston and tried to break into the advertising market here only to learn that the market is cut throat and I wasn't ready for that kind of fight. I needed a job, I found a listing for a receptionist position at the Perkins+Will Houston Office. I applied and got the job. After a month or so found that I was absolutely in love with my job and the company.
Fast forward to mid-2016, my receptionist duties were taking a backseat to project work and marketing had become my main goal. After working with a colleague in our New York Office, I found I really wanted to move forward. I worked hard and with her willingness to help me succeed, I finally got the marketing position I had been working towards. So here I am! Ready to chase my next goal :)
