Reading Partners

Tutor at Septima Clark Charter School

For the 2011-2012 school year I served as a tutor for Elementary School aged boys at Septima Clark Public Charter School in the Anacostia neighborhood of Washington, DC. I worked with the students on their reading skills, finding ways to make the lessons fun and engaging for the students, and making it a fun learning experience for each student. The students that I tutored all increased their reading levels by 1.6-2.2 grade levels. I received awards for both Outstanding Volunteer and Outstanding Tutor during my time working with the students.

This experience taught me so much and I truly appreciated my time with each student, seeing the students begin to actually enjoy reading and seeing their sense of accomplishment was incredibly rewarding.
