I had the unprecedented opportunity to be the first social media intern for National Geographic's digital division, where I wrote breaking news and photo captions for website. Created photo captions. Analyzed competition for site redesign. Pitched stories and Internet features at executive meetings.

Most importantly, I fell in love with digital media and Washington, D.C.

Having been raised in South America and loving Latin American culture, I was thrilled to pursue a master's in foreign affairs focused on South and Central America, which led to incredible opportunities and really great trips. Working full-time in downtown DC and pursuing a master's full-time was no easy feat, but I graduated on time with a 3.9 GPA.

Going to UNC-Chapel Hill as an out-of-state student to study journalism was my dream, and went I received the acceptance letter I was elated. My four years at Carolina brought incredible friendships from my sorority, Pi Beta Phi, and study abroad in Spain and Italy. Learning about editorial journalism and digital media directly from experienced journalists at the School of Communications prepared me for where I am today.
