Movemeant Foundation enables young women to feel confident about their bodies by empowering them with the tools to be active. By using fitness and physical movement as the primary platform for social change, we strive to be a catalyst for creating a new era of healthy, strong and self-assured young women.
With negative body image growing to near epidemic proportions in the past 20 years, as many as 60% of participants in national studies reporting that they don't like the way their bodies look. In fact, body dissatisfaction has become so ubiquitous that Americans spend $40 billion dollars a year for weight loss programs and products alone. To compound the effects of negative body image, an analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey reports that sedentary lifestyle and not caloric intake may be to blame for increased obesity in the United States, with the most dramatic rise of physical inactivity among young women.
Movemeant Foundation recognizes and addresses the critical needs of our society by developing an innovative, three-prong approach that utilizes advocacy and awareness for positive body image, peer-based mentorship/role models, and grants that make physical movement a reality.
