Dr.Cantacuzino Clinical Hospital

General Surgery Resident

A typical day for me at the hospital started at 7.30, i began with the morning ward round, went round all the patients that were admitted the previous day and helped to make provisional diagnosis, plan for further investigations/ treatment required., Then, i had to submit my shift report and discuss the cases with my supervisor. After that i returned to the bandage room, and dressed the wounds of the patients that had returned for a check up. I removed their stitches if it was necessary and gave them the appropriate medication for the following days.
In the outpatient clinic, I helped my supervisor in examining and diagnosing the patients and in deciding whether the patient should be admitted to the hospital or not.
In the operation room, I assisted the operating surgeon in preparing the patient, and I assisted him during surgery as well . After the operation i observed the patient's condition, evaluated their progress and responded to any emergency situation that i encountered during that time.
My day at the hospital ended at 15.30 following the afternoon ward round, and after making sure that everything was under control.
I was on call for 24h 2 days per week. During that time I worked in the outpatient clinics, the operation room and in the recovery room.
In sum, my day was full. Although I was always busy, i enjoyed the challenge of being provoked by different problems. It made me wiser in dealing with emergency situation, and increased my ability to respond faster, more efficiently and more effectively.
