This role has allowed me to strengthen my systems implementation, financial analysis and leadership skills. Helping KW Gateway to grow has been an amazing experience, but I realize more than ever that my passion lies with grants management.

I officially became employed by UMB with my promotion to Office Manager of the Center for Vaccine Development in 2012. In addition to department operations, I gained both pre-award and post-award grants management and financial experience. I was promoted to Program Manager in 2014.

At last I found my right fit within the Malaria Group of the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Center for Vaccine Development. Starting as an Administrative Assistant and getting promoted to Program Coordinator in 2010, my love of grants management began. (During this time, I was an affiliate employee of UMB, funded and employed by HHMI.)

During this period of exploration, I briefly held the following positions: Member Service Representative, St. Joseph Medical Center Federal Credit Union; Claims Service Adjuster, Allstate Insurance Company; and Donor Specialist, St. Agnes Foundation.

With the eventual goal of founding and leading my own organization, I enrolled in the MBA program. What I discovered is that running a non-profit organization is very similar to operating a for-profit company. The main differences include the purpose of existence and tax and liability considerations. Upon graduation, I received the SU Honors Medal.

Returning from AmeriCorps, I enrolled in the Nonprofit Management program at CND. Many of the business principles I learned during my undergraduate education translated to this degree. The highlight of my graduate experience was being inducted into the Delta Mu Delta Honor Society.

After graduating from Villa Julie College, I dedicated a year of my life to community service. Based in Sacramento, CA, this unique experience opened my eyes to many social problems in our country and solidified my interest in nonprofit organizations.
