Fashion Institute of Technology

Certificate in Sustainable Design Entrepreneurship

At the Fashion Institute of Technology I had the opportunity to learn the foundations of running a sustainable fashion business from responsible sourcing, and green marketing to sustainable corporations. I got to see many of these elements in action during my time as Director of Operations at VOZ apparel.

VOZ Apparel

Director of Operations

Managed our team in Brooklyn and artisan partners in Chile to ensure on-time and high quality production. Worked with the CEO to bring the company from a two woman team to a fully operational team of highly skilled and driven individuals, producing fair-trade and high quality design.

Tsubaki Himé

After graduating from University of Hawaii I started my own upcycling line of beachwear. I used recycled denim and second-hand clothing to make one of a kind pieces.

Conscious Designers Hawaii

Organized a community of sustainable fashion designers in Hawaii. Put together fashion shows, pop-up shops, and community events to raise awareness and support local sustainable designers.

American School in Japan

Middle School

Growing up in Japan and attending the rigorous American School shaped who I am today. I learned the values of working hard and in a diverse community with students from many cultural backgrounds.

Hawaii Preparatory Academy

High School

Moving from cosmopolitan Tokyo to rural Hawaii was a dramatic shift for me. I credit this experience for learning to connect with nature. The Hawaii Preparatory Academy urged students to pursue their passions in a non-competitive environment, and this allowed me to thrive and study my what I was truly interested in, from music and chemistry to hula and basketball.

Union College (New York)

B.A., Asian Studies

Union College was an amazing experience, and allowed me a lot of flexibility in my studies. I studied Chinese throughout my time there, and studied abroad twice and designed my own study abroad term in China to do research for my senior thesis. I researched the development of mandalas from India through China to Japan. In addition, I was part of the Taiko ensemble, orchestra, president of the Asian Student Union and manager of the East Asian Studies theme house.

University of Hawaii at Manoa

M.A., Religion

I followed my love of Buddhist art history to explore the foundations of tantric Buddhism in China and Japan. I spend a year at Taisho Univeristy, a Buddhist school, where I studied tantric Buddhist sutras and classical Chinese and Japanese.
