Facilitate college government by managing an annual budget of $45,000 and overseeing 17+ internal committees. R2 The Rice Review is Rice University's premiere undergraduate literary journal. As Managing Editor: Delegate and oversee staff tasks, communicate with the faculty advisor, plan and run meetings, and think critically about the mission and future of the magazine. Design and implement the production calendar, prepare for The Big Read, coordinate layout, and copy edit. Organize and publicize events such as Open Mic Night and the annual launch party. Previously, as Layout Editor: Assemble all facets of the magazine’s interior using Adobe InDesign.
Managed an annual $12k committee budget and mentored individual event chairpersons in event planning and strategy. Planned, publicized, and coordinated Sid Richardson College events, some utilizing over sixty volunteers and attended by 2,500+ students. Improved event logistics to promote event safety and security while coordinating with Rice University Police Department and Emergency Medical Services.
Authored blog posts to increase brand visibility and web presence. Wrote and managed content for the online retailer’s social media profiles to further engage customers. Recruited new blogger affiliates to form partnerships with the brand and generate publicity.
Assisted in the development of CCA’s advocacy agenda, position papers, and lobbying materials. Researched legislative policy issues and wrote briefs and analyses on key business issues to aid staff in the preparation of reports and testimony. Wrote articles for the weekly newsletter to update members of the organization’s progress on important policy issues. Assisted staff with committee policy meetings and special events.
