Assist the strategic development of the service and ensure compliance and security of the County's Operator Licence, with direct involvement with service review, both locally and across the corporate arena, and with the development of a number of key service related policies and plans.
Duties include managing and reporting on the performance and health and safety management of the Service, representing the Service at Quality Assurance divisional management reviews, team leader meetings and Health & Safety committee meetings.
Direct the service and agree provisions that ensure that the Authority complies with its regulatory obligations relating to overloading and speeding prevention, drivers hours, tachographs and for keeping its vehicles in a fit and serviceable condition at all times.
Introduce new working practices, increase operational availability of the workshops and offer greater flexibility to the council as a whole.
Develop the corporately adopted Fleet Strategy, which defines the service’s position within the Authority and the standard to which it will operate.
Direct and support the supervision of the maintenance department, and overseeing the operations carried out by the Authority.
Represent the Council when on external committees and when communicating with external agencies. Advise on the administration of the Councils vehicle insurance claims and implement Risk Management procedures to reduce claims, providing advice the implementation and monitoring of initiatives to address and minimise future risks.
