Hostelling International New York

Community Engagement Manager

A hostel is a unique environment: it's the only kind of institution of its kind, bringing together people from all around the world and asking them to share their most personal space with one another. Meeting the needs of our travelers requires special consideration of their needs, whether it's getting to our doorstep or finding lifelong friends.

Our content and social media presence reflects these needs.

Highlights:
•Initiating and executing first ever event-based community engagement strategy for HI-New York, welcoming 4,000 NYC residents through events, classes, workshops and social gatherings;
•Designed and packaged new marketing and collateral materials for event space rentals, resulting in new revenue of $100,000;
•Redesigned HI-New York facebook page to serve as a "virtual common room" where future hostel guests can introduce themselves to and interact with each other before arrival; Facebook "Likes" increased 1,000 to 5,000 in one year's time
•Re-tooled HI-New York twitter page to respond to public foursquare check-ins at the hostel, offering pro-active customer support upon arrival
•Increased number of strategic brand partnerships to nearly 20, including Eastern Mountain Sports, Peace Corps, Moon Travel Guides, Tripping.com among others
•Co-developing and managing new Instagram-based display for hostel lobby, featuring a live feed of photos taken within the building
•Grew e-mail list subscriptions by over 400%.
•Redesigned front-end for new website hinewyork.org
