Electrician Apprentice

My responsibilities are reading and interpreting blueprints for the installation of electrical devices in a commercial construction setting. Managing my time and resources are the two main skills I practice on the job. I am required to use a wide variety of electrical tools from crimpers to fluke wire map testers. I do everything from maintaining my tools, to following a production schedule on a daily basis. I have spent the last year of my apprenticeship program on the Microsoft Redmond campus, installing security systems and access control to conference room, audio/visual updates, along with low voltage lighting controls. I have also had some minor experience terminating and testing fiber optics for the Everett school system, as well as HVAC controls and building automation.

Berry Plastics (Pliant Co.)

Press Operator

I started working at Berry plastics early 2009 in their bag production department. I was quickly promoted to apprentice press operator. While working on the printing presses I was exposed to a variety of production practices from 5s and lean manufacturing. I was expected to tie in with and relay information to incoming shift, as well as prepare the press for the next shift. Training all newcomers in the press department also became my responsibility. I was required to train on all aspects of the field, including EMS, PPE, and lean manufacturing. After a year and a half in the press department, I was again promoted to an extruder operator position; working on the second tallest extruder in Washington. This position demanded accuracy and a strong sense of urgency. I was required to monitor resin usage in mixing stations, and stage resin for future use. Once the extruders are started, they cannot be stopped so thorough calculations and being quick on your feet was necessary.

GI Joe's

Shift Lead

While working at G.I. Joe's, I was the lead sport services technician. This involved running a year round ski and bike shop that offered a wide range of services; from tennis racket maintenance, to ski and kayak rentals. I was constantly required to prioritize my time. I was responsible for setting up scheduling of all ski related appointments, along with maintaining the shop stocks. The Issaquah shop was the busiest in the state and I managed to work around staffing issues to keep the shop working smoothly and customers happy.
