Program Officer

Cornell University

Ithaca, NY

I am happiest when there is a new language in my ears, an untried cuisine on my plate, a good book in my backpack, and the time to write it all down. Making those moments possible for others too is a true thrill.

Cornell Alumni Association Travel Program

Program Officer

I manage and market Cornell’s social travel program to maximize alumni engagement, to identify travelers who are candidates for the major gifts pipeline, and to grow sales to aid budget relief. My favorite part of this work has been developing the brand from a dusty back-of-house program to an immediately recognizable resource for alumni engagement. On any given day you can find me building relationships via cold calls and digital outreach; negotiating with vendors to boost our commissions; and growing our roster of responsible travel options in concert with Cornell's commitment to sustainability. I love hearing about the life changing moments our travelers have and knowing that I created the opportunities for those moments to be experienced.

Travel is the best form of instant self realization.

Meeting Pico Iyer at the 2015 Education Travel Conference was so inspiring! We realized a shared reverence for Walter De Maria's "Time/Timeless/No Time" at the Chichu in Naoshima, Japan.

This is the campaign I created for our 2016 trips.

Save paper/more fun

I switched the program from print to emarketing. Our sales are higher than ever before!

The recent e-marketing piece for our Morocco trip featured this meme I created and resulted in 1000% increase in net promoter responses. Instead of urging people to "Register now!" the call to action was simply "Learn more" which really appealed to our well-educated alumni.

Designed to make you daydream~

I use our alumni magazine ads to create the longing that leads to reservations.

Major Gifts Associate

Being a part of fundraising at Cornell was amazing! In addition to writing proposals to harmonize donor preference and gift utility;I conducted research-based profiling and analysis; served as the development consultant for a three person committee charged with designing a new impact stewardship program; and helped to implement that design by
supervising the writing of 100+ personal presidential letters to major and principal gifts donors, some of which we later learned were framed by the donors who received them. I also got a lot of experience hiring, on-boarding, and mentoring new staff during this time.

Nothing Without Joy Therapeutic Massage

After Cornell, I went to the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY and became a NY State Licensed Massage Therapist. I had so much fun building a successful out call business in Manhattan, and later traveled to Arizona, California, and back to NYC doing healing work including massage and raw foods cheffing. What a fabulous way to spend my twenties! I still adhere to a natural lifestyle!

BA, Philosophy, Mandarin language

I switched from English lit to philosophy because i already knew how to read critically and write analytically and I wanted to be challenged to learn how to think and to articulate persuasively. In addition to Mandarin, I've studied Russian and French, and have plans to work on Arabic and Japanese. As Susan Sontag put it, "I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list."
