Environment Administration Officer

I was in charge of writing clear and concise correspondence to Applicants and Agents with reference to on-going Planning and Building Control Applications. Assisted Planning and Building Officers particularly when Enforcement files have needed to compiled for use in the Courts. Contributed in Staff Meetings in which the Director of Planning Control Services was present. I was the Representative for the Administration staff in the Department Communications Team where all aspects of Department Projects, Team communications and Initiatives were discussed. Communicated with members of the public on all levels, in writing, on the phone and face to face.

Tenancy services including services such as lease compliance and tenancy consultation advising tenants of their obligations and duties that they were responsible for under the terms of the lease agreement. Lease and rent tracking, tracking of critical dates such as lease renewals and ensuring rent payments were being met by the tenant. Property management tracking vacant properties so they could be quickly occupied and liaising with the property maintenance team to ensure necessary property repairs or upgrades were undertaken.

Overseeing public sewer and surface water drainage works for the States of Guernsey and individual home owner connections to these networks. Responsible for the setting out and checking of site levels and land surveying. Administering day work sheets and operations on site inclusive of labour and plant. Responsibilities also included quantity surveying and the measurement of materials. Ensuring work the work was completed on time, to budget and desired quality. Assisted in the management of Health and Safety and quality assurance. Able to communicate effectively across project teams.

Dew Construction assigned me to work on various sites inclusive of Highways looking after the quality assurance of concrete waterproofing, refurbishment development of an occupied 16 storey flat scheme acting also as Tenancy Liaison officer during construction and new build industrial development of steel portal frame units. I found due to the diversity of the projects that I participated in that each project developed my skills within each site management team, with new initiatives and ways of working. Working as a site supervisor I demonstrated strong self motivation skills and I was responsible for monitoring on-going works by various trades ensuring work was kept on programme. Since being in Guernsey I have been involved in the building management of a new educational facility La Rondin School and completing a retail development for the Co-op.

At Derbyshire County Council I gained extensive knowledge of Hills system buildings and CLASP system buildings and flat roof construction. I became competent in using GIS software for surveying purposes i.e. locating the extent of boundaries, establishing the ownership of the land and land use. Identifying building defects and recommending necessary remedial or refurbishment works. Recording maintenance works undertaken, projecting maintenance requirements for the coming year, and advising on projected five year and ten year programmes for the Local Authorities public building stock.
