Work in Progress. Local urban apothecary ILO Collective is expanding their reach to include online retail for their clean, responsible beauty products. I'm helping to design the site, imagery and get a handle of e-commerce.
Transitioning from import/export to project management was easier than one might imagine. Both require a proactive attitude, clear communication, and an eye for detail. The real work came with moving from a nonprofit culture to managing major tech clients in Silicon Valley. Attitudes, values, and priorities were quite different - to say nothing of budgets! A nonprofit mindset led me to approach the role of PM in a uniquely empathetic way. In addition to efficient management of day-to-day projects, I built trusting relationships with clients and vendors that served to stabilize and grow both established and at-risk accounts. With years of consistent success, I continue to keep humility and service in mind no matter who my client may be.
Come to find out, the months running up to 2008 weren't the best for job hunting. Thank goodness for Craigslist. I started at FWM as a part time Programs Assistant, moving to full time a few weeks later when I stepped in as Office Administrator, too. Over the next few years as I progressed up the ladder to Logistics Manager, I learned about shipping, fiscal accountability, digital asset management, marketing, social media, and event planning. I also learned that I had a love for working with people internationally and that finding the meaning in your work - and creating meaning for others - is inextricably linked to results.
Those who can ask [for help] without shame are viewing themselves in collaboration with - rather than in competition with - the world. Amanda Palmer
When I applied to CUI in 2002, it wasn't a natural choice for an arts major: the school was small and funding was limited. However, under the guidance of dedicated and brilliant professors I received instruction not only in literature and drama but in how to self-teach and make much of little through ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
