Friendship Circle of Michigan

Founding Supporter

Jacob is honored to be a Founder Supporter and Member of The Board of Directors of the Friendship Circle. The Friendship Circle envisions a world in which children with special needs and their families experience acceptance, inclusion and friendship.

It is through the unyielding belief and leadership of Rabbi Levi and Bassie Shemtov that the The Friendship Circle was founded in 1995 to provide assistance and support to the families of children with special needs. In addition to helping those in need, The Friendship Circle empowers and enriches its network of volunteers, the majority of whom are teenagers, by enabling them to reap the vast rewards of giving of themselves. It is through Levi and Bassie’s innovation and leadership that the Friendship Circle has been able to provide an amazing wave of humanitarian outreach that has inspired thousands of teenage and adult volunteers to give tens of thousands hours of time to special needs children year after year, and the effect those friendships have made a dramatic difference in the way special needs children are accepted today as compared to a decade ago.

Currently, there are over 70 Friendship Circles that have been started throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia. There are currently over 11,000 teenage volunteers in the United States that give of their time to the over 3,500 special needs children that participate with Friendship Circle. Levi and Bassie’s vision has also lead to the creation of Ferber Kaufman LifeTown (“LifeTown”) building, and the revolutionary Weinberg Village within it. LifeTown, located in West Bloomfield, Michigan opened its doors in 2005, and has received International acclaim. This 23,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility was developed by Levi and Bassie by consulting parents of children with special needs, therapists, educators and professionals from around the world.
