Public Safety Dispatcher

I receive incoming telephone calls for police, fire, medical emergency and non-emergency services, and dispatches public safety personnel units and equipment to respond to calls for service utilizing a two-way radio system, Computer Aided Dispatch system, multiple display terminal and other related equipment. I evaluate and prioritize calls for service while documenting and directing the calls to appropriate resources. While on the radio I maintain two-way communications with police, fire and paramedic units. I also strategically assign ambulance posts for city coverage and, exercise considerable judgment in transmitting pertinent information to field units and in dispatching emergency personnel and equipment in accordance with established regulations and procedures. I am also Communications Training Officer assigned to train and evaluate new staff on an as needed bases.
