“30 Things I’m Happy I Tried and Learned Before 30″

This could be a list where I look back and regret all of the moments that were difficult and frustrating and painful, but instead, before my 30th birthday, I’m going to look back at these moments with gratitude and grace, as these moments helped me get to 30. I don’t think everyone should go through these moments for growth; but looking back, I’m happy I went through them.

2015 Commencement Address for Brenau University

You will not be able to please everyone around you (I promise you, you will not), you have to do what you love in life, not necessarily just in work. You have to believe in yourself. Most important, you have to surround yourself with a community of learners, visionaries and smart people to help move you and the world forward.

Paige Management

Director of Events and Marketing /Partner of 121 Fulton Street

I built the event and marketing department from the ground up for Paige Management, bringing the company from a 3 venue company in 2009 to its now 8 venue company status . I developed all departments for Paige and all properties. I was responsible for booking and executing over 6 million+ dollars worth of events. During my time at Paige Management, I worked with over 250 nonprofits.

Global Festival

I helped produce the Global Poverty Project’s Global Festival; in which GPP partnered with 10 major nonprofits to produce a concert focused around social impact occurring on September 29th, in Central Park funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as the Sumner Redstone Foundation where Black Keys, Foo Fighters, Crazy Horses, Band of Horses and K’naan performed. I secured the strategic partnership to build out The Global Festival’s ticketing platform (a mobile application that “monetizes” social impact, where individuals have to earn points through giving back/doing good on behalf of the 10 participating organizations.) I also helped build the teams for sponsorship, media, artist outreach, and nonprofit partners.

I’ve learned that sometimes doing the right thing isn’t the easy thing, but respect is harder to earn than being liked, and it’s much longer lasting.

TEDxBig Apple

Event Organizer

I assisted in the production of TedX Big Apple at Saatchi and Saatchi, which included securing fiscal sponsors and helping with event management, curation of guestlist, and marketing.

To create a meaningful life, identify your passion, find your purpose by solving big problems, and it will lead you to profit.

The one thing I wish I knew before starting my company

I wish I would have known how hard it would be to create a life/work balance and how important it is to recognize that when you have a company, you actually are your own boss and need to give yourself vacation days.

University of Connecticut

Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education/ English

Graduated from NEAG, the 5 year accelerated bachelors/masters technology based education program at UCONN. I wrote my major thesis paper on Engagement in a Nature Based Classroom, which focuses on the importance of activity and utilization of the outside environment to impact students' learning and engagement Using the Bangert-Drowns and Pyke Seven Levels of Engagement, I and my colleagues created a metrics of engagement that measures interpersonal engagement. We found that students/individuals were more engaged when they used the community/outdoors as a classroom.
