MIMI, mimichatter.com

Assistant Beauty Editor

I was the first hire on team MIMI, a new beauty site Time Inc. officially launched in March 2015. This meant I was there to see company executives take a viral beauty site from an idea to reality.

While at MIMI, I proved I was a true team player. I was in charge of the Twitter and Pinterest pages for 6 months, created and sent morning and nightly newsletters and created Facebook content when needed—all in addition to writing 5-8 stories a day.

I learned how to think on my feet and cover breaking news in a smart and effective way. I also had the opportunity to write more in depth beauty features, including first-person experiential articles. I spearheaded MIMI's Beauty Editor reviews, accepting pitches and editing articles from other beauty editors from the Time Inc. network.

Career

Northwestern University

Bachelor's Degree, Journalism, International Studies

I graduated with a degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern Unviersity and double-majored in International Studies. I learned so many important skills in my journalism classes that made transitioning to the "real world" so much easier. Academics were obviously the focus of my undergraduate years, but it was my involvement in extracurricular activities that really made the experience complete.

STITCH Magazine

Editor-in-Chief

I joined STITCH my first day on campus and became the Editor-in-Chief the spring before my senior year. This was by far the most formative work experience I've had thus far. Balancing being in charge of a group of 90 students, creating funding opportunities, and making sure every little detail was just right was a challenge, but it is one I will be forever grateful for.

Otte New York

Social Media / Marketing / PR Intern

While at Otte, a luxury boutique with four locations in the city, I worked mainly as a social media intern. My day-to-day responsibilities included posting to Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest and writing features for the blog. I also learned a lot about how to run a small business by observing the buyers and marketing team plan photoshoots and identify trends.

Albright Fashion Library

Showroom Intern

I never interned in any closets when I was in college, something I was told is a prerequisite to landing a job in the fashion industry. So when I moved to NYC post-graduation without a job, I was delighted to discover the Albright Fashion Library. Albright is luxury for hire, which means they rent designer clothing to stylists for photoshoots and to dress their celeb clients, costume designers for television and movie sets, and magazine teams for shoots. I was responsible for keeping the showroom tidy, assisting with fittings, and helping check clothing, shoes, and accessories in and out of the office.

Career

Keep.com

Marketing Intern

While at Keep, I was able to really immerse myself in the industry. I was so happy to intern at my first startup and learned so much about what it actually takes to turn an idea a real business. This is where I realized that one of my passions as a journalist is discovery, or helping readers discover new, cool products.

Glamour Magazine

Features Intern

This was my first real internship at a magazine—and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. I got to assist an editor plan an event at 92nd Street Y, write two articles for the website, and learn the editorial flow of the print publication. The biggest lesson I learned while at Glamour was attention to detail—in a serious way that has stuck with me ever since.
