February 2007 — Present
Working as a hairstylist has taught me the art of listening and of communication. A successful stylist knows that styling hair is just a small part of the job, the bigger part is the relationship. It’s all about the bond, the trust, and the faith. It’s about growing together as client and stylist. It’s about being a good listener and giving healthy advice. It’s about adjusting the mood to a woman who is having a good day or a woman who is having a bad day and creating an atmosphere we can both enjoy. I have learned to appreciate more about myself by meeting all the women that I’ve worked with. I realize how powerful we are and how resilient we are. It’s given me the opportunity to feel empowered and at the same time help empower. It’s made me into the feminist I didn’t know I was, it’s made me into an activist, it’s made me into a fighter, it’s made me into someone who stands up for what is right. Working as a stylist allowed me to become the woman I am today.
