In the Midst of This Darkness

I originally wrote this piece for my personal blog, Sunlight & Insight. Since my Dad had been diagnosed with cancer two years ago, I’ve turned to writing to not only help myself cope with the unexpected but also for others who can relate. This is for you.

Sunlight and Insight

Founder / Writer

I began this blog with the strict focus of writing about my thoughts and feelings in regard to my Dad's cancer diagnosis and how it changed my life. If you've been there, this is a place for you. I've also realized as I've been writing, that I can't limit myself to one topic because life is still swirling around me whether or not I'm a participant. So I've decided to participate. If you've ever felt that way, this is a place for you, too.

My name is Alicia. I've been writing since I could hold a pen and it constantly manifests itself as my deepest passion and medium of expression. I hope you have a special place inside your heart and soul to give your voice the energy it deserves. Thank you for being a recipient to mine.

“I’ve always wanted to fight for people who didn’t have arms. I’ve always wanted to speak up for people who don’t have a voice. I’ve always wanted to protect people who couldn’t protect themselves. It’s my nature. It’s my instinct.” -Sophia Bush
