The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland

Administrative Assistant for Development & Communications

Supporting the Development & Communications Department has given me deeper insight on my strengths and preferences when it comes to a work environment. I love communications; writing, editing, working with designers, and planning special events are the tasks that make me happiest at work. It means a lot to me to be a part of a nonprofit, because I like helping others and there is never a shortage of feel-good stories coming to our department. It's my responsibility to share those stories with as many people - donors, potential clients, and community leaders - as possible, so Legal Aid's work gets and gives the support it should.

John Carroll University

B.A., English

I began my college career as a Marketing major and enjoyed my classes - especially Economics. However, I was required to take an English course as a freshman and it changed everything. The professor was a high-energy, no-nonsense sort of person. He specialized in Toni Morrison and Shakespeare and frequently found ways to link the two - through the complex analysis (down to individual words) and in-class reenactments of plays, I fell in love with literature all over again. I changed my major and eventually added two minors - East Asian Studies and Philosophy. Attending a Jesuit Liberal Arts school was oddly a good fit for me - I learned how to think and attack a problem from all sides, not just memorize facts. The Jesuit tradition focuses on being "men and women for others," and while I am not Catholic, the idea of service resonated very strongly with me and it's something I feel extremely passionate about even now.
