Ophthalmic Technician

This is a multi faceted job which demands flexibility and responsibility of patients well being. I work seamlessly with a team of other technicians to performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures.
Daily responsibilities vary but often include; intake of patients including documentation of medical and ocular history, working with patients to ensure all medications are being administered and taken properly, evaluating post operative progress of patients, reviewing and responding to phone and email messages from patients.
I am also often asked to perform triage duties which includes assessing patient medication requests, speaking with patients about their care on the phone, and determining what actions our patients should take in ocular emergency situations.
Two times a week I perform scribe duties with the doctor while maintaining a steady flow of patients in and out of examination rooms.
I have been professionally trained and become highly skilled at conducting many diagnostic tests including; manual refraction, fundus photography, Humphry visual field, topography, pachymetry, tonometry, kerotometry and lensometry.
I am in the process of furthering my skills in this field by working towards my COA.
