The world needs more food - I focus on innovation to ensure delivery of safe, sustainable, and healthy milk for human consumption, and to improve the efficiency of the global dairy production chain. I value education about food production and instilling appreciation in consumers to drive responsible food choices.

My Next Step

I believe that we have a responsibility to ourselves to contribute to this world in a way that is productive and meaningful - whatever that looks like on an individual basis, that is up to us! At the end of an intense 10 years of non-stop, achievement-driven education, I am working on figuring out how to make my next steps the most meaningful ones yet.

Luck favours the bold | My development as an early-stage researcher has taught me the value (and essentiality!) of trusting your gut, faking it 'till you make it, and believing in what you do.

So what do I do? I am an animal scientist researching nutrition for dairy cows to optimize milk production. I consider both the biology of the animal and the needs of the growing human population for sustainable and healthful food. Milk products play an important role in the sustainability of our food supply chain, while providing the world with nutritious protein sources!

They raised me | My grad school experience in the Department of Animal Biosciences at Guelph 'raised me' in science. I can attribute 100% of my career path to the foundations that were laid there. More importantly, I learned the importance of mentorship, saying LET'S DO IT to cool stuff and figuring out the details later, and the value of experience over output in academia.

High School

Dare to be true | Nearly 10 years after graduating high school, I have a whole new appreciation for the incredible place that is this community committed to education, spirit, and raising global citizens who understand their responsibility to themselves and to the community. I wish every young person could have this kind of high school experience, where 10 years later they look back with profound appreciation.

Take responsibility for your goals | A native of the east coast of Canada, I believe moving far from home for my undergrad set the tone for how I now tackle challenges in every aspect of my life. When the only thing you know is that animals make humans better people - spending 4 years at Guelph is the best way to figure out the rest of it.

The first day of Animal Metabolism class in 4th year of undergrad - I was hooked. The way metabolic systems respond to nutrition is fascinating to me - food is fuel, for humans and animals!
