The Slasher Generation

According to The New York Times, Millennials are now the “slasher generation,” a group of people who juggle multiple careers instead of just having one job. This is in contrast to older generations who often have to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet. When asked about this new career path, Maxwell Hawes IV said that he couldn’t imagine doing just one thing for the rest of his life.

Why You Should Work at YouTube (Besides It Being Part of Your Job to Watch Cat Videos)

Recently, CEO and mother of five Susan Wojcicki sat down with Maria Shriver on The Today Show to discuss her career journey. In a refreshing spin, Wojcick said balancing work and life has helped her be better at her demanding job. “Actually having the limitations of needing to be home, only have a certain number of hours in the day, have really forced me to prioritize. I focused on the things that are the biggest impact, which in the end have had the best results for YouTube.” She praised the company for its generous 18-week maternity leave policy. “I think it’s really important to take time off and I’ve also found that sometimes you get really good insights by taking time off, too.” Watch the full segment here. Locket Love

This month’s release of the Annie remake might have something to do with it, or maybe we’re all just eight-year-old girls at heart, but lockets are making a major comeback. The Wall Street Journal claims that there’s a locket renaissance happening right now. In this world of total overexposure, it’s refreshing to keep a secret or two close to your heart. Plus, they’re usually a lot lighter than statement necklaces. #Neckcramp

Hot Barre, Punk Rope, and Treadmills? Oh My!

The results of the Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends for 2015 are in, and some of these new workouts sound pretty strange. But before you write them off as too weird, just remember that stationary bike probably sounded a little odd when it first came out too. Who knows, maybe one of these will be your new favorite workout:

Punk Rope: Do you remember how fun it was to jump rope as a kid during recess? Well, now there are classes for adults that can burn up to 600 calories. But will we get to sing nursery rhymes as we jump?

Hot Barre: If you’re looking to simultaneously love and hate your workout, look no further than this class. It’s the perfect combination of barre and hot yoga – so you can sweat profusely while enjoying (or enduring) every minute.

Treadmill Classes: If you thought 2016 was the year of the boring treadmill walk, think again! These classes are high-intensity and interval based, with a mix of lunges and squats thrown in. They’re also not cheap, at $34 a pop. Most importantly, though, you won’t be stuck staring at a sitcom rerun while doing it.
